Femtosecond Laser
Microkeratomes are the tools with a special blade used in LASIK surgery for preparing flap .
The required flap is prepared by moving on cornea and cornea laser surgery is applied.
The most important and hazardous part of LASIK surgery is the preparation.
Femtosecond lasers are lasers developed for flap preparation part of surgery which is the most critical one. They achieve flap removal by replacing keratome without any incision.

Femtosecond laser pulses made without touching cornea create laser spaces with a depth of 1 micron.

The laser shots made consecutively in 1/quadrillion of a second, are seen as laser points together.

Laser points vaporize the tissue by creating water and bubbles and forms a linear flap opening in a width of 2/1000 of a milimetre. This opening is thinner than the incision made with blade and like a separation giving less harm to the tissue.

LASIK operation is performed.by easily removing cornea flap from this separation place.

The improvement and correction of vision takes a very short time since the tissue damage is very little.

Since femtosecond laser can affect cornea in the desired depth and shape, it is used not only for preparing LASIK flap but also for various surgeries planned within cornea tissue. One of the most successful operations is the Intacs surgery performed on patients with keratoconus.

Intacs surgery can be performed in a few minutes with femtosecond laser.
